Endless (2013). A collaboration with Auckland band The Burns. Goals were to produce an independent video to accompany their debut single ‘Endless’. The sound track focussed on the term ‘taking all my energy’ and death to ‘start again’. Based on the dynamics of the artists a narrative surrounding corporate burn out- bullying and suicide was chosen. Having access to particular locations and talent was also a deciding factor towards the productions story. Playing on the female character who represented death- the main characters journey mimics her, to his demise.
Canon 7D MKI / 35mm was chosen for portability and waterproofing against the elements. We shot in central Auckland and Bethells Beach over a period of three months. The actors chosen worked within the high stress corporate environment, which enabled an authentic cohesive aesthetic. The locations were chosen based on their polarising nature- open space for dream like sequences and small claustrophobic places to amplify the feeling of desperation and life of the main character. I was responsible for all aspects of production, direction and post editing.
