The 2017 Crater Rim 50KM ultra marathon this year was held around the beautiful and rugged hills and bays in Christchurch Porthills. At the last minute I decided to head into my own back yard and explore some trails un familiar to me and shoot a few frames. The climb up through Gebbies Pass to the Packhorse Hut seemed the best way to venture into the course and proved a good work out too.
The weather climbing up was a mix of rain and sleety snow with wind and caught me off guard somewhat- but to be expected in October in Christchurch. Once at the Packhorse Hut the weather fined up to the complete opposite of hot sun and bright clear skies with slower runners getting the full value of what this region offers in the weather department.
Next year it would be great to be document the complete experience from ferry ride out of Lyttelton to the start and upto this point from the ocean.
